· Although not required, immunizations against typhoid and polio are recommended. Check with your primary care physician to determine if you should avail yourself of these or other immunizations.

· There is a risk of malaria in various places within the country, primarily in rural areas and the western provinces.

· Food preparation hygiene and standards are mixed:

- Drink bottled water or sterilized or boil tap water before using it.

- In the main cities, milk is pasteurized; so dairy products are generally safe.

- If you travel outlying areas, milk is usually not pasteurized and, along with dairy products, should be avoided.

- Locally grown meat and fish are generally safe to eat if they are well-cooked and served hot.

- Pork, salad and mayonnaise should be eaten with caution.

- Locally grown vegetables should be cooked and fruit peeled before eating.
