The Dominican Republic's geographical position is a comparative advantage that favors the growing market of international trading activities. This half island country is the United Estates' largest trading partner in the Caribbean and the second largest in Latin America, maintaining bilateral economic relations in aims to support regional development, through several agreements and free trade negotiations.

The Dominica Republic also has strong business relationships with Canada, the European Union, Asia and other Latin American Countries. As a matter of fact, Dominican exports have continued to increase in western European and Canadian markets, where Dominican products that meet certain requirements are imported duty free. In the last two decades the Dominican government has successfully implemented international free trade agreements and has become a member of important regional organizations to promote economic integration. The country continues to welcome free trade alliances similar to the Dominican Republic - Central America Free Trade Agreement (DR-CAFTA), Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the Caribbean Basin Treaty.

Exports

Agricultural products: sugar, coffee, tobacco, cocoa, fresh and processed vegetables and fruits, tropical plants and flowers.

Manufactured products: cigars, fertilizers, beer, ferronickel, clothing, leather and other goods manufactured in industrial free zones.

Other: Services and communication.

Imports: Petroleum and byproducts, vehicles, capital goods, pharmaceutical, woods and industrial and agricultural raw material and equipment.
