Surfing: Puerto Plata and Rio San Juan in the Northern Region are considered the surfing sanctuary in the Caribbean. The beaches of Sosúa, Cabarete, Playa Grande offer the perfect conditions to professional practitioners. The affordable lodging is another plus that attracts visitors from Western Europe, North America and all over the world

Windsurfing / Kite boarding: Cabarete in Puerto Plata offers the best conditions to practice windsurf and kite board. Cabarete's excellent winds, water temperature (27°C/81°F) year long and sailing facilities has positioned the beach in the top ten beaches in the world for windsurfing and kite boarding. Cabarete holds world renown windsurf competitions Cabarete Race Week and the Encuentra Classic.

Diving and Snorkeling: The country offers a lot of great spots for diving. In Cibao Region, starting in Monte Cristi there is a coral reef system with a wide marine diversity. East of Santo Domingo is the Parque Nacional La Caleta ans its sank ship (127ft depth) called Hickory, has become a feeding ground for sea creature. In the East Cost the Islands Saona and Catalina are also rich in sea life. Other well known diving sports are located in Samaná, Treasure Divers in Juan Dolio, Barahona and Bayahibe in La Romana.

The best snorkeling spots can be found along the southern coast, especially in Bahía de Neiba near Barahona that has many manatees. Treasure Divers at the Don Juan Beach Resort in Juan Dolio is another place for snorkels to have a blast.

Other water sports: Other water sports are popular throughout the Dominican coasts. Swimming, deep sea fishing and whale watching are among the main attractions some hotels promote in their all inclusive packages.

Golf: Golf in the East coast is glamorous, dreamlike and magnificent. Picture this: Teeth of the Dog a golf course designed by Pete Dye in La Romana with seven out of eighteen holes lying right next to the sea and surrounded by the purest Caribbean scenario in its entire splendor. Golf players have nothing else to ask. Robert Trent Jones also designed a golf course by the sea at Playa Dorada in Puerto Plata and Jack Nicklaus designed Cap Cana's Punta Espada Golf Course. It is not a coincidence La Romana and Punta Cana golf courses are now in the limelight of many international golf championships directors.

Baseball: Traditionally baseball is the sport that Dominican people venerate. Major and Minor baseball leagues in the United States have more than 65 and 450 Dominican players signed, respectively. Legendary figures like Juan Marichal gain the respect and opened the doors to some of the players that are making history today: Pedro Martínez, Albert Pujols, Many Ramírez and in the 90's Sammy Sosa, just to mention a few.

Mountains: biking and horseback riding El Pico Duarte, the highest mountain in the Caribbean attracts Dominicans and tourist yearlong. The country has five mountain ranges that are now becoming popular for biking, horseback riding and trekking.

Tennis: Tennis courts can be found at major hotels and social clubs. Casa de Campo has professional counselor's whom will advise visitors on how to get the most of the court and the time. Víctor Estrella is a young Dominican talent that is becoming active in many international competitions.
